ABOUT
Pippi Michiko Clementine Nola (b.1996. Aotearoa) is a multidisciplinary artist with a primary focus on painting and sculpture. She has been based in New York, USA since 2021 and has exhibited her work in New York, Mexico City, London, Auckland and Wellington. Nola’s work balances ideas with satire and whimsy, set in the post-internet, post-feminist, neoliberal world she absorbed as an adolescent. Her practice is as self-referential as the internet trends and pop media it is tied to. She explores ideas surrounding girlhood, with a fixation on the perceived self and its often volatile relationship to the inner self, often locating work in specific environments to encapsulate the contraries within ordinary life. Her work is multidisciplinary, spanning painting, hand-sewn toys and sculptures that repurpose everyday contemporary materials from vapes to bikinis. She collaborates with brands, designers and other artists to create art and/or merchandise.
